Privacy Policy
Effective October 27, 2026 · PROB30 version 20.8 and later (website and iPhone app)
In short: No ads. No tracking. We never sell your data. Your logbook stays on your device. PROB30 has no accounts and no analytics. The few things that leave your device are listed below, with the reason for each.
PROB30 is published by Last Chance Labs (Paul Michael Lachance, Canada). Questions: info@lastchancelabs.com.
What stays on your device
- Your logbook (flights, totals, aircraft, notes, previous totals you type or import, signatures, expiry dates) and your settings and favourites are stored only on your device, inside the app. We never receive them and cannot see them.
- Backups and exports (Excel, CSV, JSON, PDF) are files you choose to save or share. Where they go is up to you (Files, iCloud Drive, email and so on).
- If you delete the app, or clear the website data in your browser, the logbook stored in it is deleted. Keep a backup.
What is sent off your device, and why
- Weather, NOTAM, radar and airport data requests. When you open an airport, the map or a tool, the app asks the PROB30 server (hosted on Cloudflare) for the data for that airport or map area (for example an airport identifier or the map area on screen). The server fetches it from the public sources listed below and passes it on. Standard server logs of the hosting provider (such as IP address and time) may exist for security and operation. We do not build profiles and we do not link requests to you.
- Nearest airport. Only when you tap the Nearest airport button, the app asks for your location, uses it to find the closest airports, and sends the coordinates to the PROB30 server for that lookup. They are not stored by us. You can say no in the iPhone Settings and keep using the app. The blue "my position" dot on the map is worked out on your device and is not sent to us.
- AI Logbook Scanner (your past logbook pages, or today's aircraft log). The scanner has two parts: one reads pages of your past personal pilot logbook, the other reads the day's aircraft journey log so you can add the legs you flew. Only scan logs you own or have permission to copy. When you choose either one and scan or pick a picture, the picture is sent through the PROB30 server to an AI vision service (Anthropic, in the United States) that reads the rows and returns the text. PROB30 does not store the picture or the result. The AI service may keep requests for a limited time under its own terms (anthropic.com/legal/privacy). To limit abuse, the server keeps a usage counter tied to a one-way scrambled form of your IP address for about a day; it holds no picture and no text from your logs. You review everything before anything is saved in your logbook. A log page can show other people's names (for example an instructor, a captain or other crew); they are sent with the picture. The scanner does not read ACARS or other cockpit screens. The AI Logbook Scanner is optional.
- Map pictures and chart tiles. The base map comes from OpenFreeMap and the FAA chart layers from the FAA's public ArcGIS service. Those services receive your IP address and the map area you view, as any web map does.
- Your subscription (iPhone app). Purchases are handled entirely by Apple (App Store). PROB30 never sees your name, Apple ID, card or payment details. The app only asks the App Store whether this Apple ID has an active PROB30 subscription.
What we do not do
- No accounts or sign-in. No ads. No advertising identifier. No analytics or crash-tracking SDKs. No cookies for tracking. We do not sell or share personal information.
- The app does not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
Camera, photos and location
The iPhone app asks permission to use the camera (to scan a page of your logbook for the AI Logbook Scanner), the photo library (to pick a photo you already took) and your location while you use the app (for Nearest airport). Each is optional and only used for that purpose. You can change them at any time in Settings > PROB30.
Data sources
Weather: NOAA Aviation Weather Center (METAR, TAF, SIGMET, AIRMET, PIREP) and Environment and Climate Change Canada (radar, MSC GeoMet). NOTAMs and D-ATIS: FAA. Airport diagrams and frequencies: FAA (Chart Supplement data, 28-day cycle). Airport and runway layouts: OurAirports (public domain) and OpenStreetMap contributors. Forecast pictures: MET Norway (CC BY 4.0). All are public sources used under their open terms. PROB30 is independent and is not endorsed by any of them.
Children
PROB30 is a tool for pilots and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone.
